Move over eBay, the nation’s anglers have a new favourite when it comes to fishing tackle classifieds! Well, I don’t think the online auction giant has too much to worry about just yet but I couldn’t help but notice how the online fishing tackle classifieds website – Tackle Trader – was shooting up the rankings in terms of search engine queries. According to Hitwise, over the last three weeks more people have searched for the phrase ‘tackle trader’ than the term ‘fishing tackle’ – usually the most searched for by far. In the weekly rank of search queries that contain the word ‘tackle’, ‘tackle trader’ now ranks top, with ‘fishing tackle’ in second spot – very unusual.
I can’t confirm whether this new found interest in Tackle Trader is due to a successful, new marketing campaign, however at the time of writing over 91% of the items on the site were posted in the Carp section so it looks like tackle-trader.com has become a firm favourite with the carp brigade.
In all seriousness, it’s not fair to make comparisons to eBay in this observation as the majority of anglers would navigate to fishing tackle on eBay through a more direct route (e.g. ‘ebay’ or ‘ebay.co.uk’) not ‘ebay fishing tackle’. I don’t think the online auction giant has too much to worry about just yet, but an interesting change in behaviour from carp anglers nonetheless.
