Fishing on Holiday? LRF, the Perfect Travel Companion

LRF Lizard FishFishing on holiday just got a whole lot easier for me.

Just to clarify, we’re not talking about ‘Fishing Holidays’ here, with intense angling itineraries and perhaps lavish tackle purchases for taking-on the highly targeted game fish of your choice – we’re talking average family holidays abroad.

I’m sure we share the same dilemmas every holiday. You’re an avid fisherman. You love fishing. You love fish. And consequently you always try to book a holiday near the coast in the hope you’ll find time to flex the Continue reading “Fishing on Holiday? LRF, the Perfect Travel Companion”

Lures for Plaice Fishing

Plaice on a LureIf you follow Fishing Tackle UK, you might have noticed that we got a bit carried away with the LRF (Light Rock Fish) style of ultralight lure fishing last year. It consumed our angling activities and became a constant distraction from other exciting types of fishing. While my passion for LRF continues to grow, at the beginning of 2012 we made an active, healthy, decision to make HRF (Hard Rock Fish) an intended focus this year.

Ocean Ruler CrazyG HD Jigs

CrazyG HDHere’s something new. Ocean Ruler’s CrazyG HD jigs and jigheads were one of my favourite finds at the 2012 Nantes tackle show. As far as I know, the Ocean Ruler brand is owned by a Japanese tackle manufacturer called Tsuriken – known for innovation. The French tackle show was the first time I’d consciously come across the brand. Interestingly, in France, it Continue reading “Ocean Ruler CrazyG HD Jigs”

Marukyu, Ecogear, Nories and the Future for the UK

Marukyu | Nories | EcogearOn day two of the Tackle & Guns Trade Show I had the absolute pleasure of spending 20 minutes or so with Peter Koppman of Marukyu (thanks to Ben @ Art Of Fishing for the recommendation). Peter works for Marukyu, but more specifically on the Ecogear and Nories sub-brands – I guess you could say, the lure side of things. Peter is an Aussie and resides in Japan – the homeplace of Marukyu. He’s an angling nut from an angling family (his parents ran fishing tournaments when he was a kid) and he speaks Japanese. In short, he’s a pretty interesting guy and no doubt a Continue reading “Marukyu, Ecogear, Nories and the Future for the UK”

Berkley Gulp Sandworm vs Marukyu Power Isome

Gulp Sandworm vs Power IsomeI admit, I’ve been consumed by a new area of our sport. It’s taken all my strength not to let it and all the related new tackle swamp Fishing-Tackle.co.uk, but I can’t contain it any longer.

‘LRF’ or Light Rock Fish originates from Japan where the local anglers use Ultra-Lightweight outfits to target smaller species of fish like Aji (Scad) and Merabu, in a highly pressured fishery. While LRF is a saltwater discipline, it shares a lot of tackle and technique with ultra light freshwater spinning. Anyhow, this isn’t
