SONIK Sports launched back in May 2008 and from the off it was clear that the brand was a little bit special – not surprising considering the pedigree of the gentlemen behind it. Former Hardy & Greys commercial director Ian McCormack and Tony Anderson, who also worked at the Alnwick company as a product manager were joined by seasoned marketeer, John Openshaw to form the new fishing tackle manufacturer. It is John’s role within SONIK Sports that perhaps interests me the most.

It’s always a good year when Shimano bring out a new Stella – the flagship fishing reel in their range. Luckily for us, 2010 is one of those years. Introducing the new Shimano Stella featuring X-SHIP (Extra Smooth & High Power).
As you can see, the reel has been aesthetically modified once more and is as beautiful as ever. I’m sure this will be enough for some anglers to part with a large chunk of change, however Shimano have added so much more in this new model. At the heart is X-SHIP. The ‘Extra Smooth’ appears to come from improved bearing placement on the main shaft. The reel also features Shimano’s Full Floating Shaft. With the new season fast approaching it comes as no surprise that we’re seeing a growing trend of anglers looking for ‘fishing tackle finance’ in our search logs for the site. Credit fills me with dread – I’d have trouble recommending finance to anyone – but if it gets you fishing and you don’t overspend and keep within your reasonable limits then I guess I can see it as a means to an end. 2010 sure is turning out to be a hot year for fishing shows. Next event in your calendar should be Chapmans Angling’s Fish Fest 2010. A massive three day extravaganza will see a huge array of angling gurus and celebrities represent their prospective fishing tackle manufacturers at the Chapmans Angling Hull store, from Friday 26th to Sunday 28th March.
Amongst the Fish Fest 2010 highlights are live Bait and Rig Making Demos, Q&A Sessions with angling’s top stars, a Bivvy Village, the Latest 2010 Products and Bargains Galore.
