New Daiwa Saltiga Z for 2010There has been some talk on internet fishing forums & chat rooms that Daiwa will update the existing Saltiga Z range of heavy-duty spinning reels this year. If the rumours are true this might see Daiwa include their latest technologies in one of the best reels on the planet. New innovations like ‘Mag Sealed’ waterproofing could be included, as featured in this year’s release of the new Daiwa Certate in Japan.

New Shimano Stella for 2010

It’s always a good year when Shimano bring out a new Stella – the flagship fishing reel in their range. Luckily for us, 2010 is one of those years. Introducing the new Shimano Stella featuring X-SHIP (Extra Smooth & High Power).

As you can see, the reel has been aesthetically modified once more and is as beautiful as ever. I’m sure this will be enough for some anglers to part with a large chunk of change, however Shimano have added so much more in this new model. At the heart is X-SHIP. The ‘Extra Smooth’ appears to come from improved bearing placement on the main shaft. Penn Torque Heavy Duty Spinning Reels – T&G Show [part 4]

One of the highlights of the T&G show was the Pure Fishing stand featuring such giants as ABU Garcia, Berkley, Mitchell, Shakespeare, JRC and Penn – the list goes on – all featured a number of great products for 2010. Of particular interest to me, was that Penn had added two new ranges of top-end fixed-spool spinning reels, both suited to sea or any heavy duty angling. Announcing the imminent arrival of the new Conquer and the range we’ll look at now, the impressive Torque!

Top of the tree is the new Penn Torque Spinning Reel – a reel squarely aimed at the Shimano Stellas and Daiwa  Saltigas of this world. I was lucky enough to handle the Torque at the show and it is exciting in that it’s very different to both those aforementioned reels.
