New Daiwa Saltiga 3500 & 4000 Released

New Daiwa Saltiga 4000As far as light tackle fishing news goes, this is right up there… Daiwa have released the new Saltiga spinning reels in smaller sizes, including a baby 3500. Happy days!

When Daiwa released the new Saltiga range of spinning reels back in the tail end of 2010, questions were rightly asked over what this meant for the excellent Daiwa Saltiga Game range. Well our questions (and prayers) have been answered in the form of the new 3500 & 4000 sized reels launched recently in Japan. Unlike the Saltiga Game range, the new reels have kept the aesthetic appearance of their big brothers. They don’t appear to be disadvantaged in any way either – just pint sized versions of the bigger reels. New features such as the lightweight Zaion Continue reading “New Daiwa Saltiga 3500 & 4000 Released”

Daiwa Morethan Branzino Lever Brake Drag (LBD)

Daiwa Morethan Branzino LBDJust spotted a planned addition to Daiwa’s Morethan Branzino range of spinning reels on Japanese tackle site plat.co.jp – the Morethan Branzino 2508SH LBD.

I know what you’re thinking, it’s the current Morethan Branzino reel with an extra lever bolted on. Well I guess it is really. Yet another tackle innovation from Japan sees the Lever Brake Drag (LBD) form factor added to Morethan Branzino range. It’s hard to see this being a popular reel outside of Japan, but I shouldn’t knock what I  haven’t tried.

I’ve been aware of this type of reel from Daiwa for a few years after seeing some shots in a Japanese catalogue but quite where the origin of this design lies, I don’t know. I’m sure your conclusions on the use will be similar to my own – clearly the lever offers more Continue reading “Daiwa Morethan Branzino Lever Brake Drag (LBD)”

Team Daiwa Z Boat Rod & Daiwa Saltist Lever Drag Review

Daiwa Saltist Lever Drag ReelAs far as I can tell there are only two reasons you won’t buy the new Team Daiwa Z boat rod and Daiwa Saltist LD20H lever drag reel. The first reason is they’re a bit pricey and its true, with a retail price of £225 for the rod and £315 for the reel the money could be better spent on paying almost a whole months gas bill(!). Secondly, you think that you already have all bases covered in the boat rod department – but Continue reading “Team Daiwa Z Boat Rod & Daiwa Saltist Lever Drag Review”
