One of the most attractive stands at the show, and as ever filled with quality products was that of Snowbee. 2009 has proved to be the best year yet for Snowbee’s 25 years in business. The success is reported to be due to ranging quality, innovative products that are sensibly priced and supported by great service and supply.
Amongst the huge array of first class fly fishing equipment on offer was a big star of the future in the UK – perhaps even a bit understated – Tuf-Line braid line.
Tuf-Line superlines are manufactured by Western Filaments in the US. They already have quite a following in other parts of the world but haven’t really been promoted all that heavily here in the UK. Snowbee have picked up the UK and Irish distribution after losing Power Pro when the manufacturer, Innovative Textiles was gobbled up by Shimano earlier this year. This week, the Angling Times gives us an exclusive look at one of the new reels in Daiwa’s 2010 range – the Daiwa TD-X – which looks like the replacement for the ever popular TDR (the blue one).
Angling Times exclusively reveal that the new reel will be in the shops by the end of November – perhaps you won’t get that naff pen that turns into a fishing rod for Christmas after all!
In terms of enhancements the TD-X moves on from the TDR in a number of ways. The reel now features a push-button release on the spool making changeovers much quicker and trouble free. There’s a new line clip system that’s been inherited from the top-of-the-range Basiair carp reel and a waterproof drag system that’s been developed from another high-end reel, the Certate. In this video from James Robbins, Product Development Manager for both ABU Garcia and Berkley we get a snap shot of some of the new products to be launched by the two tackle giants in the coming season.
First up is an old favourite brought right up to date. The Premier 706 closed-face reel takes its pedigree from the ABU 506’s and 507’s of yesteryear. It didn’t take long! Just moments after Shimano’s 2010 catalogue had arrived, the new ‘Baby Baitrunners’ have already won their first award.
UK publication, Improve Your Coarse Fishing has awarded the new, smaller-than-ever baitrunners their ‘Product of the Month’ award citing the new design as revolutionary for some areas of the sport.
